Roughing it…
If you’ve ever hunted Mexico you know that sometimes the ranch houses are a little rough around the edges. This ranch doesn’t even have a ranch house so our hunters truly have to rough it!
For hunters that are willing to do what it takes to shoot a great buck this is the ranch for you. We knew the moment this ranch was offered to us we had to have it, ranch house or not. For us the solution was easy, a tent camp! Like so many of the outfitted camps here in the U.S. we’ve made arrangements to set up spring bar outfitter tent sand cots to accommodate our DIY hunters. For some of you this may be a deal breaker but for others in the know about coues deer hunting in Mexico, sleeping in a tent is a small sacrifice to make for the opportunity to hunt an area with the caliber of coues deer this ranch holds.
Only about an hour north of Hermosillo, the most difficult part in driving to this ranch is the 30 minutes or so of washboard roads to get there. After that the ranch roads themselves are great! The area consists mostly of long finger ridges where a hunter can gain some elevation to glass into the bottoms and across to the other side. This is lower arid desert country with lots of yellow grass and cat claw that is perfect habitat for coues deer to thrive and grow old. The terrain is big enough to glass and find deer before they see you, but not extremely rough country like some of the mountain ranches further north. It really is the perfect terrain to glass up rutting deer and then make your move to close the distance. For those of you that have the patience to sit water or want to run some trail cameras to see how the buck inventory is looking there are several drinkers and dirt tanks the thirsty bucks will be hitting to cool off from chasing does! If everything I’ve mentioned isn’t enough there is one other detail that will surely seal the deal… MULE DEER!!! This ranch has them and some big ones too! Now we don’t claim that there are a lot of mule deer, but they are here, and for that reason we’ve made a deal with the landowners that we only have to pay for a mule deer if we shoot one. We’re allowed up to two mule deer on this ranch but because we don’t feel there is a large enough population to sell the tags as a stand alone hunt we offer them as an “add on” for an additional fee. Just give us a call and we will fill you in on all the details and get you booked!
